Every year, over 3500 babies across Canada will be born with a broken heart, but half of them won’t know about it until after birth.
Our mission is to help more babies with heart defects get their lifesaving diagnosis before birth.

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) refers to a wide variety of problems with the heart, structural or electrical, present at birth.

Heart defects are the most common type of birth defect, affecting 1 in 100 infants. Most of the time, there is no known cause and usually occur in parents with low risk factors.

Most heart abnormalities can be detected at the 20-week anatomy ultrasound scan.

We provide specialized training for ultrasound techs to help them recognize more heart defects at the 20-week anatomy scan, giving families and infants the best medical support as early as possible.

We trained at least 119 individuals through hands-on training, and in-person and virtual seminars!

Over the course of the granting period, we spent a total of $7400.

In addition to training, we also created two NEW resources for sonographers that have begun distribution across Alberta (and beyond!).
